Morocco international Azzedine Ounahi is reportedly keen to leave Angers in January amid rumours that Newcastle United are interested in signing the midfielder.
According to L’Equipe, the 22-year-old sensation is eager to leave the French club next month following a breakout 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, where Ounahi was one of Morocco’s best players on their way to a historic semi-final finish.
Lauded by Jose Mourinho as an ‘incredible’ player, Ounahi has seen his stock sky-rocket in recent weeks, and a move in January now feels likely for the Morocco superstar, with 90min recently reporting that Newcastle are interested in signing the midfielder.
With Angers sat in the relegation spots of the Ligue 1 table, the French club could be open to selling Ounahi if a big offer comes in for their star talent, with L’Equipe also noting that fellow Atlas Lion Sofiane Boufal could also leave the Maine-et-Loire club.

Indeed, as for Newcastle, news that Ounahi wants to leave Angers is exactly what Eddie Howe would have wanted to hear, with the Magpies now in the perfect position to make an offer and sign the 22-year-old in the January window.
With the youngster filling a role that Newcastle are keen to add to next month, Ounahi could be quite the signing for Newcastle even if there will be a twinge of doubt given how sudden the midfielder’s rise has been in recent weeks. Though the Magpies have shown that they are smart in their transfer dealings.
Newcastle signing Ounahi could be Howe’s best move yet

Clubs spending big-money on players post-World Cup is nothing new, with many of Europe’s elite all guilty of falling into the trap that a few good games in football’s biggest competition will lead to years of success away from the international stage.
However, Newcastle signing Ounahi could be a great move for all parties involved, with the midfielder already one of Ligue 1’s most exciting prospects who could now win his big move away from Angers, with the Toon a perfect next club for the youngster.
