Newcastle United are set to offload Ayoze Perez to Leicester City in a deal worth £30 million.

According to the Northern Echo, Newcastle United are set to lose Ayoze Perez to Leicester City and the sale just serves as another slap in the face for the St. James’ Park crowd.

There is an argument to suggest that Newcastle have got a decent price for Perez, after agreeing a £30 million fee with Leicester.

However, it is rather damning that the Foxes are now prising Newcastle’s key players away from them.

Newcastle should be competing with Leicester, given the facilities and fan base that they have been behind them.

Under Rafael Benitez Leicester only finished four spaces above Newcastle in the Premier League last season.

However, Brendan Rodgers’ men have quickly taken Newcastle’s most prolific attacker and it just sums up the gap between the two clubs.

Benitez cited a lack of ambition at Newcastle as one of the reasons behind his departure.

The Spaniard wanted to compete for trophies and to make it into the upper echelons of the Premier League.

Newcastle’s decision to sell Perez just shows why he was exactly right to leave though, as it is not even the top six that the Magpies are struggling to compete with.

Newcastle are not even battling to make it into the top half of the table, and the decision to sell Perez to a team which should be seen as a rival is further evidence that the Magpies are heading in the wrong direction.
