Newcastle United were beaten 1-0 by Bournemouth in their latest match.

Ayoze Perez has told the Shields Gazette that Rafael Benitez was not pleased with Newcastle United’s performance in their last match against Bournemouth.

Newcastle were beaten 1-0 by Bournemouth last weekend, with the Magpies’ performance failing to live up to expectations.

And Perez says that Benitez let Newcastle’s players know that they were not up to scratch after the contest.

The Spanish striker said: “The manager told us that we have to realise that we did not do well at all. We made mistakes that gave the opposition chances to score.

“We have to realise that was not good enough.”

Perez has been one of Newcastle’s players who has come under the most criticism to date.

Perez has been accused of not contributing enough in a forward sense to Newcastle’s cause, despite playing frequently.

Perez was actually left on the substitutes’ bench for Newcastle’s match against Bournemouth, but he was brought on to little impact in the second half.

The Magpies have now lost their last two matches, meaning the international break may have come at a good time for Benitez’s side.

Newcastle are next in action in two weekends’ time, when they take on Manchester United.
