Newcastle United lost against Tottenham Hotspur at St. James’ Park in the Premier League at the weekend.
The Magpies kicked off their 2017-18 Premier League campaign with a game against Tottenham at St. James’ Park on Sunday afternoon.
Rafael Benitez’s side lost the match 2-0, conceding twice in the second half following the dismissal of midfielder Jonjo Shelvey.
It was goalless at the half-time interval, and Newcastle were very much in the game. It was only after the departure of Shelvey that Spurs scored both their goals.
Newcastle striker Perez, who can also operate as an attacking midfielder, has revealed the mood in the dressing room at half time.
“The feeling at half time was that anything could happen in the second half,” the 24-year-old Spaniard told the club’s official website. “They were having the ball, but without an end product.
“We lost the game in the end, and we need to improve a lot of things, adapt again to the Premier League, and we know it’s going to be tough.”
Winning against Tottenham even at home was always going to be hard for Newcastle, and the players and the fans should not be too disappointed with the final result.
Spurs are one of the best teams in the Premier League, and losing 2-0 to them with 10 men is not an embarrassment at all.
