Newcastle United have won four times in 23 games this season.
Ayoze Perez has told The Daily Mail that something ‘strange’ is happening at Newcastle United.
Newcastle were held to a 1-1 draw by Championship side Blackburn Rovers in an FA Cup clash last weekend.
Magpies boss Rafael Benitez named an under-strength XI but the outcome might’ve been the same with United’s heavy hitters.
Benitez’s side have only won four of their 23 games across all competitions this season, and Perez believes ‘a piece of the jigsaw’ is missing for Newcastle.
He told The Daily Mail: “I don’t know exactly, but it is a strange thing. You can’t struggle as much as we are in home games. That means something is wrong.
“It is strange because there is no consistency. Sometimes it is individual performances, sometimes it’s not like that and it’s team performance. It can’t be individual every time as we have changed players and rotated. I think there is a piece of the jigsaw that is missing.
“It is holding us back and it’s why we are struggling. We’ve won twice at home and that’s just not acceptable. It’s not good enough so something should change.”
The Spanish attacker, who earns £45,000 per week at Newcastle [Spotrac], has scored twice in 20 Premier League outings this season.
Something is missing for United, and that is top-quality players, but it remains to be seen if Benitez is given the resources to strengthen where needed.
Miguel Almiron is heavily linked with a move to St James’s Park and although that transfer would make a difference, is it enough for the Tyneside outfit – two points above the drop zone – to swerve relegation? Potentially not.
