Newcastle United had 40,000 fans in attendance last weekend.

Ayoze Perez has thanked Newcastle United fans for their support and admitted to The Chronicle that he didn’t expect so many of them for Saturday’s win over Luton Town.
The Magpies beat the League Two side 3-1 at St James’s Park on Saturday to ease their way into the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Defeat would have been a massive shock but despite the forgone conclusion of victory over the minnows, some 40,000 Newcastle fans turned up to watch the win nonetheless.
And Perez, who scored twice against the Hatters last weekend, admits that he was surprised by how many supporters arrived at the stadium.
“Honestly, I didn’t expect that many for a cup game. They supported us really well and that was a great feeling,” he told The Chronicle.

“To have them with us again for Swansea helps us. As always the support is amazing.”
It’s back to reality for Rafael Benitez’s side on Saturday as they face a huge relegation six-pointer with bottom-of-the-table Swansea City.
Newcastle are only two points above the drop zone themselves, but victory at home is an absolute must.
You can’t expect to stay in the Premier League if you drop points at St James’s Park to sides like the Swans – four points from safety – and the United fans will demand three points.
