Ayoze Perez has told the Shields Gazette that he wants a run of games at Newcastle United, as he looks to improve his form.
Perez was expected to be a key player for Newcastle this season, but he has struggled to adjust to playing in the Championship.
While it is widely recognised that the Spaniard has the ability to be a stand out player in the second tier, he has found himself out of Newcastle’s first-team on a number of occasions.
Rafael Benitez has favoured Dwight Gayle in the number nine role, while Mohamed Diame has often been selected as an attacking midfielder.
Perez did make a big impact in Newcastle’s last match against Brentford in the Championship, though.
The 23-year-old swung in a great cross, which Daryl Murphy headed home, to score the winner at Griffin Park.
Perez is now hoping that Benitez sticks by him for a run of matches, with Newcastle next in action against Birmingham City in the FA Cup later this evening.
“That might help me if I maybe play more games in a row and get more confident,” Perez said. “If the team is winning, even better. I’m working on improving and getting better.”
