Aymeric Laporte has been gracious in defeat after Liverpool won the Premier League title last night.

The Manchester City defender was speaking to the Daily Star after his side failed to prolong Liverpool’s title celebration for another game and he admitted that the Reds have performed well this season.

Laporte did suggest that City would be stronger next term though, as they look to take the title back from Anfield.

“They win the title. Congratulations to them,” Laporte said.

“They do it well. We have to improve. Next year maybe we can get back to first place.

“It is never easy to accept but we will see what happens next season.”

Laporte’s injury was one of the reasons why Liverpool were able to topple City.

Pep Guardiola’s side badly missed the French centre-back for a large portion of the season, with their defence looking more vulnerable without him and Vincent Kompany in it.

City have lost on eight occasions this season and their latest defeat to Chelsea ultimately meant that they had no chance of catching Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have been the dominant force this term and for them to wrap their first ever Premier League title up with seven games still left to play is an incredible achievement.
