Aston Villa were said to be interested in re-signing Axel Tuanzebe from Manchester United this summer.

Axel Tuanzebe’s comments to Manchester United’s official suggest that he is happy that he didn’t end up back at Aston Villa.

Villa had Tuanzebe on loan last season, and Dean Smith’s side were strongly tipped to go back in for him this summer.

The Daily Mail suggest that Villa were preparing an £8 million bid to sign Tuanzebe permanently, and they also wanted him on loan.

However, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wanted to take a closer look at the young centre-back and ultimately decided to keep him around.

Tuanzebe has not seen much first-team football this season, but he did get his first brief spell of game time against Leicester City in United’s last match.

And Tuanzebe has suggested that he is so delighted to still be at Old Trafford.

“Staying here this season was the right decision for me. I had glimpses of the first team at United when I was 19, but now I’m 21 there’s a clearer pathway of where myself, and the team, want to be,” the young defender said.

Tuanzebe could receive his first start of the season this evening, as United are set to play in the Europa League.

The Red Devils will face Astana, and it is expected that the former Villa man will be given his first real chance to impress during the contest.
