Aston Villa’s hopes of signing Axel Tuanzebe have been dented.

Aston Villa tied up a second signing of the summer today, securing winger Anwar El Ghazi permanently having brought in Birmingham City’s Jota last week.

That’s two wingers brought in, given that it was becoming a real problem position for Dean Smith, but those two additions really help the cause.

Villa need other reinforcements this summer, and centre back is another problem position for the club, with loanees Tyrone Mings and Axel Tuanzebe heading back to their parent clubs.

There are real hopes that Mings could return from Bournemouth permanently, but the Birmingham Mail claim that Manchester United won’t be allowing Tuanzebe to leave this summer.

Villa must look for alternatives, and one player who ticks the boxes is Chelsea ace Fikayo Tomori, especially with John Terry’s links to the Blues.

Tomori starred for Derby County this past season, and took on Villa in the Championship playoff final, but now heads back to Chelsea, where he may find first-team football hard to come by.

Fiyako Tomori of Derby County reacts following the game at Pride Park Stadium on December 17, 2018 in Derby, England.

The Daily Mail claim that Chelsea are willing to sell Tomori for £10million-plus, and that’s the kind of move Villa should consider, especially as the 21-year-old has huge potential.

Villa should be looking for a like-for-like replacement for Tuanzebe, and Tomori ticks the boxes. They’re the same height, of similar stature, possess great pace, strength and reading of the game for their age, and would fit well next to the dominant Mings.

With Tuanzebe unavailable, Tomori must be on Smith’s list of replacements having impressed for Derby, and whilst £10million is a considerable outlay, it would be an ideal move for Villa both now and for the long-term.
