Manchester United take on Northampton Town in the EFL Cup later this month.

While we are currently forced to sit through yet another international break, it will not be long before the domestic action returns, with Manchester United set not only to continue their Premier League campaign but also kick off their Europa League and EFL Cup participation.

While United manager Jose Mourinho looks set to go strong in Europe he could give some of his younger players a run out against Northampton Town in the League Cup on 21 September, with centre-back Axel Tuanzebe in line for his debut.

The 18-year-old is one of the few promising teenagers not handed a debut by former United boss Louis van Gaal, but Mourinho appears to rate Tuanzebe highly and he could be set for his first senior run out as early as this month.

With Eric Bailly and Daley Blind the first-choice paring in the league, and Chris Smalling, Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones likely to get run-outs in Europe, that could leave Tuanzebe as a likely starter against Northampton. It would also be a sensible time to give the highly rated player his debut.

Despite having only 14 appearances for United’s under-23 side under his belt, Tuanzebe looks ready for the step up, and it will be interesting to see if Mourinho gives him that chance in just 15 days.
