Andros Townsend has taken to Twitter to react after The Athletic revealed that Crystal Palace had agreed a deal with Patrick Vieira.

What’s the story?

Well, out of nowhere, news broke earlier today which revealed that the Eagles are set to hire the 45-year-old as Roy Hodgson’s replacement.

The south Londoners have agreed a three-year contract with the Frenchman, in what is something of a shock appointment.

Vieira had been considered for the Bournemouth job, before the Cherries opted to hire Scott Parker instead.

Crystal Palace were said to be close to hiring Lucien Favre.

However, the 63-year-old performed a last-gasp U-turn to leave Steve Parish panicking just days before pre-season begins.

What has Andros Townsend said?

Well, funnily enough, Townsend spoke to Vieira on ITV last month, and questioned the Frenchman about links to the vacancy at Selhurst Park.

Vieira said he’d love to manage in the Premier League and admires the passion of the fans.

Townsend – whose contract is about to expire – then joked that he’d be expecting a three-year deal if the ex-Arsenal man was hired.

Now, Townsend has taken to Twitter to refer back to those comments.

You can see his tweet below.

In our view, this is a woeful appointment for the Eagles.

Vieira has been available ever since Hodgson announced his departure, so those on Crystal Palace’s board clearly weren’t that keen on the Frenchman.

Hopefully, he can prove us wrong.

However, his track record of managing just two clubs – New York City and OGC Nice, where he was sacked – doesn’t fill us with confidence at all.
