Javier Hernandez didn’t cover himself in glory for West Ham United on Saturday.
Javier Hernandez hardly did much on Saturday to rubbish the suggestions that he could leave West Ham United before the transfer window closes.
The Mexican hitman started up front for the Irons’ FA Cup fourth-round trip to Wigan Athletic, but Hernandez, a £16 million summer signing, was one of West Ham’s most disappointing performers as David Moyes’s side lost 2-0 to the League One outfit.
The 29-year-old was virtually anonymous for the entire 90 minutes and, given how it came in a week where his agent claimed that Hernandez had a number of other possible opportunities on the table, that display didn’t do much to suggest that he’ll still be in East London come February 1.
And suffice to say that quite a few West Ham fans have blasted him over such an anonymous display.
Hernandez scored in last week’s 1-1 draw with Bournemouth, but it was only his fifth Premier League goal in some 22 games since joining from Bayer Leverkusen.
He wouldn’t be a huge miss, but it’s imperative that the Scottish manager brings in a capable replacement, otherwise you wonder what the point of selling him on is.
