Liverpool fans aren’t keen on UEFA’s reported plan to extend Champions League groups to 11 teams.
The Times say that UEFA are holding a discussion this week over introducing an elongated group stage from 2024 onwards in the Champions League.
It would mean that every club would have to play at least four more games in Europe than they currently do.
And Liverpool fans feel that the potential change would be a poor one.
Liverpool supporters have become concerned about fixture congestion, with Jurgen Klopp bemoaning their schedule this season.
The current campaign is, of course, shorter than usual – which means that Liverpool have had a gruelling schedule.
But the concerns that adding even more games into the fixture list from 2024 are understandable, given the amount of injuries that clubs have suffered this term.
Liverpool are without a number of key players currently, with the demands of the season taking their toll.
And if UEFA do bring in an extended Champions League group stage in future, then teams may have to start adding more players to their squad to ensure they can cope with the demands of having to play so many matches.
