Peter Crouch has savaged Davinson Sanchez, blaming him for both goals Tottenham Hotspur conceded on Thursday night.
Spurs suffered arguably their most humiliating result in modern history by losing 2-1 away to Mura in the Europa Conference League.
The Slovenian outfit were not even a club back when Tottenham won their last trophy in 2008.
That ought to illustrate the scale of difference between both clubs.
None of Antonio Conte’s side really conducted themselves with much glory, it has to be said.
But this is particularly true of the Colombian centre-back, who was somewhat culpable for both goals that Conte’s troops shipped.
Speaking to BT Sport afterwards, Crouch labelled the performance as ‘awful’.
He said: “He wants to cut inside him, because he did it in the first half. He goes to sleep.
“He tries to shepherd him down the line. As soon as he cuts inside, I said he’ll go. Awful defending, that’s two goals because of him.”
Chance wasted
The former Ajax powerhouse, who earns £65,000 per week in North London, missed a big chance to impress Conte.
The Italian manager hasn’t settled on his first-choice pairing in central defence as of yet.
Sanchez had the opportunity to make a statement to Conte on Thursday but you have to say that he blew it in a big way.
He isn’t a bad defender by any means, and Mauricio Pochettino, who signed him in 2017, labelled him a ‘beast‘ a year later, but he is absolutely prone to disaster.
Conte has quite a few central-defensive options, like Cristian Romero, Joe Rodon, Japhet Tanganga and Eric Dier, so the former Chelsea boss won’t hesitate to drop Sanchez for Sunday’s trip to Burnley and really, he probably will.
