The Everton star specialises in missed penalties these days it seems.

Everton’s Gylfi Sigurdsson is exceptionally gifted at a lot of things on a football pitch.

But penalty taking is not one of them, if his record is anything to go by.

Before last night, the Everton attacker had missed four penalties for club and country since June 2018, and now it’s five.

Sigurdsson helped Iceland to a 2-0 win over Andorra last night but the Toffees star could and should have made it 3-0 on 73 minutes, though he fluffed his lines from 12 yards.

The former Tottenham Hotspur and Swansea City man missed three spot-kicks for Marco Silva’s side last season and it’s probably time that the Portuguese manager found somebody else.

Here’s how Everton fans reacted to last night’s miss:

It hasn’t been a good season for Sigurdsson or any Everton player really. The Goodison Park club have lost four Premier League games on the spin, sitting 18th in the table.

Like so many of the Blues’ playing staff, the Icelandic star looks sapped of confidence, but a good win over Brighton & Hove Albion this weekend may change that.
