Speaking on the Highbury Squad YouTube channel, Kevin Campbell has been discussing William Saliba’s rise to fame at Arsenal.
The French defender has been unreal for Arsenal this season. He’s firmly established himself as one of the best defenders in the Premier League and has become one of the first names on the teamsheet at Arsenal.
Campbell himself has been blown away by this young man, stating that from day one of pre-season he was impressed, describing the star as an ‘awesome player’.
Saliba hailed by Campbell
The pundit spoke incredibly highly of the France international.
“He felt that Saliba wasn’t at the level that he is now. He’s gone away, he’s grafted and he’s come back. It’s there to be seen and since we saw him in pre-season we were like ‘woah’. He’s an awesome player and he’s an awesome defender. He should be the bedrock of this Arsenal team for the next 10 years,” Campbell said.
Hard to keep him
Saliba could be a stalwart and a key player for Arsenal for the next 10 years, but that’s only if Arsenal manage to keep hold of him.
Saliba, to us, looks like a player worthy of playing for one of the world’s best clubs. We’re talking Real Madrid, Barcelona level.
Yes, Arsenal want to get there eventually, but the reality is that the Gunners haven’t quite been at that level for nearly 20 years now, and they may struggle to keep hold of Saliba due to that fact.
Of course, if Arsenal can tie him down, they will have one of the world’s best defenders at the heart of their backline, but when you have a player of this talent, that is easier said than done.
