Avram Grant has praised West Ham United for appointing Manuel Pellegrini as their manager, as quoted by The Sun.

Former City boss Pellegrini has been appointed as the West Ham manager following the departure of David Moyes.

The Chilean is a very respected and successful manager, who won the Premier League title with the Citizens in 2014 and the League Cup in 2014 and 2016.

Former West Ham manager Grant has praised the London club for appointing Pellegrini as their new boss.

The former Chelsea and Portsmouth boss, though, has criticised the West Ham hierarchy.

Grant told The Sun: “I think if West Ham want to succeed, it’s a good sign that they brought in Pellegrini, but I don’t think the problem over the last 10 years was the coach, no.

“(Gianfranco) Zola was a good coach and other coaches did a good job. But I can tell from inside – and I don’t want to say more than this – that the problem was never with the coach. It can’t be.

“It can’t be that in the last 10 years all of the coaches was bad. They need to check what the problem was and who is the person who disturbed that, they can ask the coaches that were there, and then West Ham can be a top club, a very big club.”

Moving on

West Ham are a massive club and have a strong following, but the Hammers have not been successful in recent years.

There have been too many managerial chances at the London club, who need to stick with Pellegrini and must support him in the summer transfer window.

While it is hard to see West Ham break into the top four of the Premier League anytime soon, they should be looking to at least challenge for the top six in the coming years.
