Glasgow Rangers are reportedly interested in bringing Tyler Roberts to Ibrox on loan.
Roberts appears to be an extremely promising prospect for the Baggies, but there are plenty of question marks about his future right now, with The Sun reporting that his contract is currently set to expire at the end of the season.
While Rangers’ record when it comes to signing youngsters on loan is mixed, the 18-year-old has scored a handful of goals in the third tier and backed it up with a few assists also, so certainly seems to be the kind of player to keep an eye on for the future.
And that is why Rangers should not limit their interest in Roberts to a loan bid.
The Sun reports that he could be available for just £300,000 next summer if he does end up leaving The Hawthorns at the end of his contract, and that may present the Gers with the chance to land a deal that could perhaps evoke memories of the bargain move Celtic pulled off when they signed Moussa Dembele when his contract expired at Fulham in 2015.
Roberts appears to be some way behind Dembele in terms of development right now, but he is slightly younger than the Frenchman was when he moved to Parkhead, so does have time to develop significantly.
Of course, it would be a bold suggestion to claim that he could be as good as Dembele has been, but given the lack of depth that the Gers currently boast in attacking areas, Roberts getting anywhere Dembele’s level would make him a brilliant addition – and would not be out of the question.
If Rangers manage to bring Roberts to Ibrox on loan next month, it would be a good move from the Gers, but, given how little he is set to cost if he does not sign a new deal with West Brom, they should waste absolutely no time putting the plans in place to try and get a permanent move in the pipeline.
