Well, Arsenal failed to replace Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on transfer deadline day.
The Gunners terminated the Gabon international’s contract at the Emirates Stadium but didn’t bring in anyone to replace the talismanic marksman.
One player touted to join Arsenal was Raul de Tomas and, interestingly, the 27-year-old could come up against Aubameyang on Sunday.
The 32-year-old striker ultimately joined Barcelona on a free transfer.
And his full debut for the Camp Nou outfit could well come against the player succeeding him at Arsenal.
Next up for Barcelona is Espanyol, where De Tomas is likely to lead the line in this derby.
According to Sport, Arsenal were put off by the Spaniard’s £59 million release clause but could go back in for the player during the summer transfer window.
Will the Gunners try again?
Well, that probably depends on the Alexander Isak situation.
Mikel Arteta and Edu only pursued De Tomas after it was clear that they’d be unable to sign the Borussia Dortmund attacker this past January.
So if Arsenal can’t sign Isak again this summer, it seems plausible that De Tomas – who has 12 goals in all competitions this season – could be considered a target once again.
