Arsenal brought the former Borussia Dortmund teammates into the club during last month’s transfer window.
Gunners new-boy Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang sat down for an exclusive interview with the club’s official website, and opened up on a telephone call that he shared with former Borussia Dortmund teammate Henrikh Mkhitaryan before sealing his switch to the Emirates.
Arsenal signed the 28-year-old striker from Dortmund on transfer deadline day, for a fee believed to be worth in the region of £60 million, and the Gabonese hitman made an instant impact, scoring a beautifully taken goal during his side’s 5-1 win over Everton on Saturday.
Mkhitaryan, 29, has also impressed since joining the Gunners, racking up three assists during Saturday’s demolition job on the Toffees, and there is genuine excitement emanating from the Emirates for the first time in a very long time.
Aubameyang spoke exclusively to the club’s official website, and shared how the Armenian called him a few times before he officially moved to the north London outfit, pleading with him to come and join him:
“He called me a few times and asked, ‘Will you come or not?’ I said, ‘First you have to tell me if you signed or not’. He told me it was all done — and of course it was a big factor in me coming here. It’s like being reunited with a brother, a good friend. We played together in the past and I’m really happy to see him again.”
Next up for the Gunners is their crucial clash with bitter rivals Tottenham on Saturday, and they will need their two new recruits to be at their absolute best, if they are to have any chance whatsoever of returning to the Emirates with maximum points.
