West Ham United fans have reacted on Twitter to their club posting an image of their ‘captain and vice-captain’ on the day Arsenal stripped Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of his role.

Ahead of Arsenal’s home clash against West Ham, Mikel Arteta has made the bold call to, not only strip Aubameyang as the captain, but ensure he’s not available for selection tonight.

In an apparent dig at what’s happening on the other side of London, the Hammers were clever enough to post this message and picture of Declan Rice and Mark Noble on Twitter.

The West Ham fans know exactly what their club is doing and many of them saw the funny side.

Of course, they don’t want it to come back and bite them because three points are still up for grabs in a few hours time.

The result could have big bearings on the Premier League table because three points for Arteta’s side would see them leapfrog fourth-placed West Ham.

Or, the Hammers can potentially capitalise on the indifferent mood in north London and the possibility that this Emirates dressing room could be divided following yesterday’s call.

If Arsenal fall behind early tonight, then the home crowd will get that bit agitated and the recent events wouldn’t have helped, whether Arteta was right or wrong in the decision he made.

Until then, no long-term skipper has been appointed yet by the club, as it seems as though Alexandre Lacazette will lead the team out.

He wore the armband during his side’s win against Southampton on Saturday and will do the same again.

It just shows the mess Arsenal are in that they stripped a guy of being captain, he got that role after the previous player was also stripped.

And now, the player who is seemingly ‘interim captain’ hasn’t signed a new contract at the club and could leave next summer.
