Tottenham Hotspur may be unbeaten in the Premier League so far this season, but at times they’ve looked very blunt in the attack.

Yes, Heung-Min Son scored a hat-trick in his last outing, but he’s failed to score in six of his seven league appearances this season, Richarlison is still waiting for his first league goal for Spurs, while Dejan Kulusevski has just one league goal to his name this term.

It’s fair to say that Tottenham could do with being a bit more clinical in the attack, and perhaps now they’re regretting one sale they made this summer.

Of course, we’re talking about Steven Bergwijn.

The Dutch winger was always on the periphery at Tottenham, even if he was spoken highly of by Antonio Conte, but unfortunately, Richarlison’s arrival this summer was the final nail in his coffin and he was shipped out to Ajax.

However, since joining his new club, he’s shown Spurs exactly what they’re missing.

He has six goals in 544 minutes of league action – averaging around one goal every 90 minutes, while he’s also netted in the Champions League already this term.

Bergwijn can’t stop scoring since leaving Spurs. Meanwhile, for a number of Tottenham’s attackers, the goals have dried up.

It would be remise to state that the Eredivisie and the Premier League are comparable, but when you look at the type of money that has been paid to bring the likes of Antony and Luis Sinisterra and Sebastien Haller to elite clubs this summer, you have to give Bergwijn a lot of credit for his form over in the Netherlands.

Whether or not Bergwijn can keep this sort of form up for the remainder of this season remains to be seen, but the early indications suggest that Spurs may have made a bit of a mistake in letting the Dutchman leave the club.
