Liverpool signed Darwin Nunez this summer, and it’s fair to say that the Uruguayan’s start to life at Anfield isn’t exactly going to plan.
Indeed, the attacker has as many red cards as he does goals, and aside from a menacing league debut against Fulham, the South American has been utterly unconvincing in almost every other game.
Liverpool have a conundrum to solve with Nunez, and to be honest, they have issues throughout their attack.
Mo Salah has just two league goals to his name after a Golden Boot campaign, and while Luis Diaz is playing brilliantly, Liverpool’s attack is still rather blunt.
Perhaps that wouldn’t have been the case if Liverpool had made another addition as well as Nunez this summer.
Indeed, according to The Athletic, as well as Nunez, Liverpool were impressed by his Benfica teammate Rafa at the same time, and looking at the numbers this season, it’s fair to say that the Reds could’ve done with the Portuguese winger.

In seven league games this term, Rafa has four goals and two assists to his name, trumping any other Liverpool player in terms of attacking output.
Of course, those numbers come in a significantly weaker league in Portugal, but as Nunez and Diaz have shown, Liverpool aren’t afraid to take a leap of faith on a player from that neck of the woods.
Rafa wasn’t signed this summer due to his age profile, but at the end of the day, winning games and scoring goals is all that matters, and while his resale value won’t have been brilliant, Liverpool probably could have done with bringing him into the fold to revamp their frontline which has been struggling this season.
