The Swiss soon joined them, following their win over Argentina.

Belgium then beat Czechia and will meet the Swiss with a place in the final up for grabs.

Reacting to Belgium’s win over the Czechs, ATP star Zizou Bergs shared his thoughts on his country’s tennis progression.

Bergs gave Belgium a 1-0 lead over Czechia, defeating Jakub Mensik in straight sets, 6-2, 7-6.

Elise Mertens then fought back to beat Barbora Krejcikova in three sets, securing Belgium’s spot in the final four.

During their post-match press conference, Bergs reacted to the result and made a big claim about Belgian tennis.

“Where should I start?” he asked.

“Yeah, unbelievable day. I just realized later on that we are top four, which is pretty crazy.

“We did it in Davis Cup top four, now with the mixed format again. Belgium is becoming a big country slowly.

“We’re small, but starting to perform big.

“Yeah, I think unreal performance from the team today. So excited to go ahead against Switzerland. As Elise said, maybe a little bit of a home advantage because we’ve been playing here, we know how it is.

“I think, again, great chances going into the semifinals. Every day we come up with a great day, like Stunty Tuesday, Thirsty Thursday. So the name for Saturday is going to be Sassy Saturday.

“That sounds very good. Hopefully, that brings up the good vibes again.”

Belgium will take on Switzerland in the United Cup semifinals on Saturday, January 10.

Have Belgium ever won a title in tennis?

Belgium have never won the Davis Cup, but did win the Billie Jean King Cup once, in 2001.

Led by star players Kim Clijsters and Justine Henin, Belgium took down some of the best teams in the world 25 years ago.

Belgium beat Spain, Germany, Australia, and Russia en route to the title.

They haven’t won another title since, despite reaching another final in 2006.

Belgium’s Davis Cup side also suffered heartbreaking finals defeats, losing to Great Britain in 2015 and to France in 2017.

Perhaps Belgium will return to winning ways in 2026 at the United Cup…
