Atletico Madrid are reportedly interested in signing Liverpool attacker Roberto Firmino, who could now leave Anfield following last week’s arrival of Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the Brazilian international is likely to leave the Premier League giants in January, with Gakpo being announced last week as a new Liverpool player in what was the Reds’ first transfer of the winter window.
Firmino’s future has been under scrutiny for quite some time, and there’s now a real chance that the former Hoffenheim star could leave Liverpool in the coming weeks, with European rivals Atletico interested in signing the attacker this month.
With Atletico talisman Joao Felix expected to depart this month, as well, there’s every chance that Firmino could be signed by the La Liga giants to replace the Portuguese international, who he himself looks bound to join a top Premier League side.

Indeed, Firmino leaving Liverpool would be quite the moment for many supporters, with the attacker a firm fan favourite on Merseyside and a player who has been instrumental in the Jurgen Klopp era of the Anfield club.
However, there’s no denying that the signing of Gakpo can be viewed as a nail in the coffin for Firmino’s future at Liverpool. And Atletico could be a great next step for the South American superstar, especially with Felix’s potential departure set to open up funds and a squad space.
Firmino should be open to signing for Atletico this month

Firmino’s time with Liverpool has been nothing short of incredible, with the attacker winning almost every possible trophy with the Merseyside giants and playing a crucial role in Klopp’s immense success at Anfield. Yet nothing lasts forever, and a move to Atletico could be ideal for the Brazilian.
After all, the slower pace of La Liga could suit Firmino’s style of play perfectly, and with Felix set to leave Atletico, there is a clear and obvious role in the squad that needs fillining, with the Liverpool star the ideal man to replace the Portuguese international.
