Atlanta United have reportedly received $150,000 from River Plate after Ezequiel Barco led the South American giants to the Argentine league championship.
According to journalist German Balcarce, the former Five Stripes Designated Player has helped pocket Atlanta a decent sum as Barca guided River Plate to the Argentine title, with the Buenos Aires-based side paying the MLS franchise $150,000 as part of the forward’s loan agreement.
Barco joined River Plate last year on loan, with Atlanta since agreeing with the South American giants that the deal will become permanent in 2024. However, to compensate the length of the agreement, bonuses have been included, such as extra payments for winning silverware.
Indeed, $150,000 might not seem like much for a franchise as big as Atlanta, yet with Barco’s loan move proving to be the right thing for all parties, the Georgia-based club will be more than happy to pick up the payment for one of their most expensive failures yet.
Atlanta will hope for more paydays from Barco in the future

With Barco set to officially join River Plate in 2024, Atlanta have arguably done as good a job as they could when it came to offloading the winger. And the FIve Stripes will now want to be hopeful that they can experience future paydays in the coming months.
Indeed, Barco could have become a superstar at Atlanta had the move suited all parties. However, the winger now looks to be enjoying soccer again back in Argentina. And the forward’s latest championship win can only be a good thing in the 24-year-old getting back to his best.
