Speaking on the Here We Go Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has shared an update on Arsenal’s pursuit of a new right-back, including the latest on the Gunners’ pursuit of Tariq Lamptey.
The London club have long been linked with a move for the Brighton ace, with reports even claiming that the Gunners were the favourites for his signature a few weeks ago.
However, it seems as though Mikel Arteta’s side have begun to look elsewhere after initially scouting Lamptey.
“Yes, we have to say that for the right-back, we’ve mentioned many times about this idea of trying for a right-back, they will go for a new right-back because there are huge chances for Hector Bellerin to leave the club this summer.
“Last summer he was close to PSG, then they move to Florenzi, Barcelona were also interested but nothing was done. This summer there are huge chances for Bellerin to leave Arsenal if a good proposal will arrive.
“So Arsenal are preparing for a new right-back, Cedric could stay and they could go for a new one. At the moment the situation with Lamptey is not going on, I think they will go for another one. They were scouting Lamptey, but they are looking for a different right-back.”

This update may disappoint some Arsenal fans as supporters seemed to be very keen on bringing Lamptey in.
So, the question remains, who will Arsenal sign at right-back this summer? Emerson Royal has been linked lately, so perhaps he could be an option.
Sadly, it seems as though Lamptey isn’t a player we’re likely to see lining up for Arsenal at the Emirates anytime soon.
