Toulouse are preparing for life without reported Tottenham Hotspur target Ibrahim Sangare, according to recruitment chief Jerome Fougeron in conversation with FootMercato.
While Spurs didn’t exactly have a season to remember, finishing seven points adrift of the top four, spare a thought for Toulouse.
Les Violets had been circling the drain for some time like a Franco-version of mid-2010s Sunderland.
But, after winning just three of their 28 Ligue 1 fixtures in 2019/20, the eternal strugglers have finally been relegated to the French second tier.
And with Tottenham coming calling for Sangare, the £18 million-rated midfield powerhouse, Toulouse will surely now be powerless to prevent the departure of their Ivory Coast international.
“We are building a team. A little at all posts. There are players who are still under contract but who risk leaving us, like Sangare – so we are working on their replacement,” Fougeron says.
Etienne Capoue, Issa Diop, Moussa Sissoko and goalkeeper Alban Lafont have all risen through the ranks at Toulouse in recent years but Sangare could be the best of the lot.

There are certainly shades of Moussa Dembele in the way the 22-year-old enforcer puts out fires in the defensive third before starting attacks at the other end with a burst of acceleration or piercing pass.
Sangare averaged 3.4 tackles per game last season, comfortably more than any current player in Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham squad.
