Glenn Murray has claimed that Ryan Sessegnon won the battle with Arsenal transfer target, Kyle Walker-Peters, as Tottenham Hotspur beat Southampton 4-1 in the Premier League on Saturday.

The former striker told BBC Sport that both Sessegnon and Walker-Peters were ‘at each other all the time’, with the former equalising for Antonio Conte’s Tottenham when James Ward-Prowse had put the away team ahead.

Even though Southampton were on the back end of a heavy defeat, former Spurs man Walker-Peters produced a good showing upon returning to England’s capital.

The Englishman was also outstanding last season, earning England caps, hence why the likes of Arsenal are looking at his versatile talents, as reported by the Athletic.

Whether the 25-year-old, who came through Tottenham’s academy, wants to return to north London to don Arsenal colours if they came knocking remains to be seen.

But yesterday, Walker-Peters enjoyed a great tussle with Sessegnon, as former Premier League player Glenn Murray labelled it a ‘fascinating battle’.

“This game has turned into the Sessegnon and Walker-Peters show because they’re just at each other all the time,” said Murray.

“Sessegnon got in in the first half and got the goal on the back of Walker-Peters. He got in again but Walker-Peters made a great challenge.

“It is turning out to be a fascinating battle in that pocket of the field and at the minute, Sessegnon is winning it.”

DO TOTTENHAM REGRET LETTING WALKER-PETERS GO?

Back in 2020, Spurs sold Walker-Peters to Southampton for £12 million and since then, they have been trying to find that right-sided player.

During that period, three fullbacks have been signed by the club – Matt Doherty during the same transfer window KWP left, Emerson Royal last summer and now Djed Spence.

In total, £60 million has been spent by Daniel Levy, which probably indicates that they regret selling their academy product because he could argue that he is better than the three Antonio Conte can pick from right now.

But the beauty of Conte is that he might now transform those individuals into players that perhaps punch well above their weight.

Either way, it’s going to be interesting to see what happens with Walker-Peters this summer and how he continues to progress compared to what Tottenham are now working with.
