Moussa Sissoko wants to dig in at Tottenham, so are they stuck with him?

Moussa Sissoko’s move to Tottenham has not played out to be a success just yet, but he is not giving up.

Any hopes Spurs had of offloading him in the summer were dealt a blow by his interview this week with French channel beIN SPORTS where he declared his intention to stick around.

Sissoko said: “My future is at Tottenham and I’m trying to give my best. I’m trying to learn because I have to get used to a new style of playing in a new team.”

It would be understandable that Sissoko wants to give it a second crack in 2017/18 with a full pre-season behind him, but head coach Mauricio Pochettino has so far indicated firmly that he is not regarded as a first choice option, hardly ideal after spending £30 million on his signature from Newcastle.

The biggest problem for Tottenham is that Sissoko is on a whopping £95,000 per week, according to The Mirror, netting an annual salary of £5 million.

He is among Tottenham’s top five earners, and this is going to make it particularly hard for Spurs to offload him in the summer when they are already trying to recoup their big fee.

It could be a similar scenario to Emmanuel Adebayor’s time at Tottenham, when his £100,000 per week contract saw them lumbered with him. Even after releasing him latein 2015, they were stuck paying his wages for several months.

With Sissoko making clear that he intends to stick around at Spurs, getting rid of him could be tough, unless chairman Daniel Levy starts making contact with filthy rich Chinese Super League clubs.
