Rangers star Windass has been in excellent form at Ibrox.
The Scottish Sun have claimed that Rangers new manager Steven Gerrard could be tempted to cash in on playmaker Josh Windass this summer, with Cardiff City and Burnley interested. But should Leeds reignite their January interest?
Gerrard, 37, will be hopeful of being handed a large war chest at Ibrox but the likelihood of that is slim. If Gerrard is to improve his side, he will need to offload a number of first-team stars.
The report claims 24-year-old Windass could be one of those players to be thrown on the scrapheap, with a bid of £3million said to be favoured by the Scottish giants.
Windass has been in emphatic form this season, scoring 17 goals and adding another eight strikes as assists during his 40 league and cup outings. His form is reportedly said to have impressed Championship side Leeds back in January.
Though his price tag has shot through the roof, Paul Heckingbottom must not let a player such as Windass evade a move to Elland Road as the Gers’ number 11 boasts the kind of talent required to push for promotion.
£3million is more than affordable at Elland Road, with the likes of Kemar Roofe, Adam Forshaw and Pontus Jansson signed for such a figure in recent seasons.
Landing Windass, and beating Cardiff and Burnley to his signature for £3million would provide Heckingbottom with the attacking prowess and midfield cover required to finally end Leeds’ 14-year wait for Premier League football.
