Celtic and Brendan Rodgers have made just two signings this summer.
Brendan Rodgers admitted he had made a transfer mistake this summer by axing Charly Musonda’s 18-month Celtic loan short – just six months into the deal. Now, he should try to rectify that by luring Musonda’s Chelsea teammate to Paradise.
Musonda failed to make an impact at Celtic, playing only eight times after joining the club from Chelsea in the January transfer window. Joining until the summer of 2019, he had his loan cut short and is back at Chelsea.
It leaves Celtic particularly light on the flanks, with Patrick Roberts also leaving the club after his loan spell from Manchester City ended. Youngster Mikey Johnston is also expected to depart.
Only Scott Sinclair and James Forrest remain from last season, while Jonny Hayes returns from a long-term injury and Lewis Morgan will be relied upon to step up after being signed from St. Mirren.
But the Hoops need a big-name player on the flanks – especially with the club looking to complete in the Champions League as well as securing a third successive treble.
Indeed, Rodgers should look to replace Musonda by targeting a Chelsea teammate at the bargain price of £3.5million, with Goal claiming Italian side Sassuolo are closing in on the capture of Jeremie Boga.
The 21-year-old, who was born in France but has one Ivory Coast cap to his name, is set to leave Chelsea permanently after loans with Rennes, Granada and Birmingham City. At £3.5million, he is a bargain.
Indeed, Boga can play on both flanks and behind the striker, and is renowned for his electrifying speed and direct style of play. His type of football would be perfectly suited to the Scottish Premiership.
Landing Boga as a replacement for Musonda would be an excellent bit of Celtic business, especially at such a low price.
