The Southampton captain handed in a transfer request at the club this week.
Southampton defender Jose Fonte recently handed in a transfer request at the club as he looks for one last challenge in his career.
After excellent form in the Premier League and helping Portugal to Euro 2016 glory the time seems to have come that Fonte has decided to leave the South Coast.
One team who were instantly linked with his signature were Everton, as reported by the Liverpool Echo.

Everton boss Ronald Koeman knows Fonte well, as they worked together at Southampton, and it was instantly suggested that a move to Goodison Park could be on the cards.
But surely Everton should not make a move?
Do Everton need another centre-back? Yes. Do they need another one in his thirties? No.

At 33 Fonte is not a signing for the future and with Ashley Williams and Phil Jagielka already the wrong side of 30 it would not make sense for Everton to sign Fonte – no matter how good he is.
What Everton need is a younger option with experience in the Premier League – much like Fonte’s defensive partner Virgil van Dijk.
Fonte would simply not be a logical recruit for Everton.
