Manchester United are reported to have agreed a £27m deal to sign PSG’s Serge Aurier and Tottenham should avoid trying to match it.
On the face of it this will be a blow to the Red Devils’ Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur, with the Sun claiming they were showing serious interest in the 24-year-old.
Paris Saint-Germain’s Ivorian defender Serge Aurier vies with Nice’s Brazilian winger Dalbert Henrique.
Spurs are on the hunt for a replacement for Kyle Walker following his move to Manchester City, in a deal that could eventually rise to £50m (BBC).
However, Kieran Trippier already proved at the end of last season that he can step into Walker’s place at wing-back and manager Mauricio Pochettino needs a player who will push the Englishman for a place, not expect to be starting ahead of him.
Aurier has proven to be a controversial figure for PSG and has been in and out of the starting XI as a result, further suggesting that the Ivory Coast international is perhaps not what Spurs need right now.
While Tottenham have a decent pot of money available to improve the squad, that does not mean they should overspend as a result and the fee and wages being quoted for the defender sound like an unnecessary expense when Tripper is the already the readymade replacement Pochettino needs.
