The signing of Junior Firpo has simply not worked. Signed from Barcelona last summer, there was plenty of hype surrounding his £13million arrival. But Firpo has struggled; Leeds need to find a replacement this summer.
Throughout the entire season, 25-year-old Firpo has only managed 22 games for Leeds. Constantly injured, he was an unused substitute at Crystal Palace on Monday night – with Stuart Dallas preferred to Firpo at left-back.
He has struggled and it has been a problem position for Leeds, even since Barry Douglas joined the club from Wolves in 2018. The Whites need to solve their left-sided issues and Juventus might just show them the way.
Reports from Italy claim that Juventus are looking to sign Liverpool’s Greece international Konstantinos Tsimikas. The Old Lady are willing to part with a sum of £11million to get Tsimikas – who continues to be back-up.
Juventus eye Tsimikas: Why Leeds is a better move for Liverpool ace
Well, firstly, he might not even have to move – and if he did, it is hardly a long distance compared from England to Turin. The second factor is that Tsimikas would struggle to start for Juventus – with Alex Sandro better.
It is up to Tsimikas. He has now spent the past two seasons playing back-up to Andy Robertson – will he want to join Juventus and continue doing that? Or should he chance his arm and join a club where he is a regular?
Certainly, at Leeds, he would be. He is a level above both Firpo and Dallas and at £11million, he is a proper bargain – too. Whether Liverpool are willing to accept such a fee, remains to be seen come the end of the season.
But a move to Leeds would save him having to move far, and see him get plenty of first-team football – while Juventus he is back-up all over again.
