Newcastle are likely to be after a striker in the summer transfer window.
Islam Slimani’s loan move to Newcastle United could not have gone much worse so far. Just one appearance since joining the Magpies due to an ongoing groin injury, the Algerian’s chances of a permanent deal are thin.
If Rafa Benitez chooses not to sign the 29-year-old on a permanent basis, then a new striker will be at the top of the Spaniard’s summer agenda with Dwight Gayle and Joselu struggling to provide the Premier League fire power required.
It should see the former Liverpool manager turn his attention towards Tottenham Hotspur striker Vincent Janssen, despite being rejected by the Dutchman last summer.
The Sun claimed that Janssen was allowed to leave Spurs and although he eventually joined Turkish giants Fenerbahce on loan for the 2017-18 season, he rejected Premier League quartet Newcastle, Everton, Stoke and Brighton beforehand.
Now, Turkish outlet Fotomac claim Janssen will is available to leave Spurs for good if they receive a bid of just £10million – a fee much more affordable despite the restraints placed on Benitez by owner Mike Ashley.
Though his goalscoring rate has not been excellent in the Premier League, he has been forced to play second fiddle to Harry Kane and was not given a fair crack at the whip under Mauricio Pochettino.
Giving him the confidence of being Newcastle’s first-choice striker will reinstall that goalscoring know how, the kind of predatory instinct in the final third that saw him score 32 goals in 49 games during 2015-16 at AZ Alkmaar.
But with Spurs willing to take a £7million loss on the 23-year-old forward, Janssen is certainly worth a punt at £10million.
