West Ham United have been linked with an astonishing 30 players this January, something that has caught the attention of manager David Moyes.
West Ham have turned a corner under Moyes but have publicly declared their intentions to add ‘three or four’ signings in January to help their battle for survival, as reported by the Evening Standard.
Pre and post match press conferences during January are dominated by questions about transfer targets and signings.
The Hammers seem to be linked with a clutch of different players every day and it has not escaped the attention of Moyes who told reporters last week: “I’m starting to find out a bit about West Ham, we seemed to be linked with everybody.”
Moyes’ efforts to distance himself and the club from the transfer gossip has done little to dampen the speculation, though.
His comment seems to align with previous comments made by former Liverpool defender turned Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher last summer.
Carragher said he felt there was always ‘too much talk’ in and around West Ham regarding transfers.
“It certainly is a problem,” Carragher said on Sky Sports ahead of the summer window opening back in May.
“So much information comes out of the club from different sources at times. (Who is) feeding that information, there’s speaking to agents.
“I think it’s always a club a lot of (average) players look to and think ‘I could get to West Ham, I could talk myself into a move to West Ham’.”
Whether it is paper talk, agents and players trying to drum up interest or more evidence of the scattergun approach to transfers adopted by co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold, the rumours are plentiful.
