Don Hutchison told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport that Jason McAteer has told him about Harvey Elliott’s ‘astonishing’ upturn in form during pre-season for Liverpool.
The 18-year-old is back in Liverpool colours ahead of the new Premier League season following his loan spell at Blackburn last time out.
Whilst Liverpool supporters have been excited to see the return of Virgil van Dijk, another individual that has put a smile on their faces has been their rising teenager.
And Hutchison shared that he has been told that Elliott is ‘starting to look like a first-teamer’.
“I have been speaking to Jason McAteer who has been following Liverpool throughout pre-season,” said Hutchison.
“He said the upturn in form with Harvey Elliott has been astonishing
“He was brilliant last season on loan and he said ‘he is starting to look like a first-teamer and getting very close’.”

Many were questioning whether Liverpool should dip into the market this summer and sign an attacking player to freshen up Jurgen Klopp’s front three.
But it seems as though Klopp is looking to put his trust in Elliott’s talents rather than go down the route of Manchester City and sign a £100 million player.
Whilst other Liverpool players will get a lot of the limelight ahead of the new Premier League season, someone like Elliott might just be the one to shine brightest because he is one to watch out for.
