Former Leicester City defender Ritchie De Laet has passed on his congratulations after the Foxes’ secured a place in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Goals from Wes Morgan and Mark Albrighton helped Craig Shakespeare’s side overturn a 2-1 first-leg deficit and seal their passage to the last eight of a competition in which they have never previously appeared.

And De Laet, who picked up a Premier League winners’ medal with Leicester last season, sent the following message to his old side on Twitter: “Well done @LCFC well deserved in to the next round”.

Having lost his place to Danny Simpson last term, De Laet left the King Power Stadium to join Aston Villa in a £2.5 million deal last August.

The Belgian, however, suffered a season-ending knee injury just three games into his Villans career, which led to James Bree’s arrival from Barnsley in January.

When asked for an update on his knee, De Laet told one supporter: “(it’s) very good thanks”.

Villa could have an abundance of right-backs by the time De Laet returns, with Alan Hutton’s recent performances hinting at a new deal for the Scotland international.
