However, according to Sky Sports, Fulham want to sign Cahill in the January transfer window, and this does complicate matters for Villa.
Although the Cottagers are not in great form at the moment, they are playing in the Premier League, and that could sway the 32-year-old forwards the London club.
True, Villa are challenging for promotion from the Championship, but leaving the Premier League for the second tier of English football at the age of 32 will be a step down for Cahill.
The Englishman may not be able to get into the Chelsea team, but he is still good enough to play in the Premier League for a few more years.
