Aston Villa are reportedly keen to land Tammy Abraham permanently next summer.
Aston Villa have landed Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham on loan for the season in a hugely ambitious deal – but they aren’t quite done there.
Villa had already tied up two impressive loan signings in Anwar El Ghazi and Yannick Bolasie, but added one more by landing striker Abraham.
Already an England international, Abraham is one of the country’s most promising young strikers, and after eight goals in 39 games for Swansea City, he is back in the Championship after a superb stint with Bristol City in the 2016-17 season.
Abraham on loan is a great signing, and the Birmingham Mail report that Villa are hoping to ‘work their magic’ in an attempt to land Abraham permanently next summer, if promoted to the Premier League.
That’s certainly ambitious of Villa to target, but Abraham is the most difficult of their loanees to sign permanently, and their hopes may be a little far-fetched even if they do go up.
Reports from Goal last month suggested that Tottenham Hotspur made a £25million bid for Abraham on deadline day, only for Chelsea to snub that offer.
That suggests that Chelsea would want more for Abraham right now, and if Abraham fires Villa to the Premier League, then their asking price would surely only increase given that he is only 20 years old.
New owners Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris have major funding, but splashing what would surely be upwards of £30million on Abraham seems somewhat unlikely, with the pair no doubt wanting to guard against more overspending after years of financial mismanagement.
