Not many understand why, but Tyrone Mings got quite a lot of stick from the home fans during Aston Villa’s 3-0 win over Leeds United on Thursday night at Elland Road.
For most of the game, well until Villa started to put the goals into the back of the net, you could hear the Elland Road faithful sing ‘Tyrone Mings is f……’ You know the rest.
Even when the Villa captain got on the ball, he would get booed, but it would be Mings who would have the last laugh.
After the game, Villa’s official Twitter account made sure to rub it in by posting the following wordless tweet, as the Villa fans in the comments made sure they expressed their views on what happened last night.
At the end of the day, Mings did his talking on the pitch, as he helped Villa to all three points and a clean sheet.
In fact, it was his lay-off and assist that allowed Calum Chambers to score a quite outstanding third for Villa.
Added with that, Steven Gerrard and his players have now kept three clean sheets on the bounce, as well as picking up maximum points during that period.
It pushes the Midlands side into the top half of the table, with a trip against West Ham United at the weekend awaiting them.
As for Leeds, well, they are dropping like a fly and seemingly heading back to the Championship at this rate.
Patrick Bamford did return from the bench last night, which is a huge, huge boost, it’s just a case of Kalvin Phillips and Liam Cooper joining him.
Whilst Jesse Marsch’s first game produced encouraging signs, it wasn’t the case against Villa and he now has his work cut out.
