Aston Villa are searching for a new manager after sacking Steve Bruce.
Aston Villa remain in the hunt for a new manager, having decided to sack Steve Bruce last week after a run of just one win in nine games.
Bruce had been under pressure from fans for some time, and those supporters have got their wish as new owners Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris have sacked Bruce, and are now looking for a replacement.
After the disappointing reigns of Remi Garde, Roberto Di Matteo and then Bruce, it’s imperative that Villa get this appointment right, especially as it’s the first for Edens and Sawiris.
A host of managers have been linked with the job, and here are some of the key names in the frame with bookmakers tonight, as compiled by Oddschecker.
The key name in the frame for days has been Thierry Henry, but with ESPN reporting that he will snub Villa in order to become manager of Monaco, his odds have now drifted out to 4/1, with a move to Villa Park now looking increasingly unlikely.
The new favourite is now John Terry, who had been expected to be Henry’s assistant. The former Villa defender announced his retirement on Sunday, and could immediately turn to management, with odds now as short as 10/11 offered tonight.
Another name prominent has been Rui Faria, with the Portuguese coach now down to around 7/4 in some places. Faria worked with Jose Mourinho at Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid and Manchester United, but is now looking for a first managerial role – and could get it with Villa.
Elsewhere, Celtic’s Brendan Rodgers is at around 7/1, Dean Smith and Roberto Martinez are out to the 18/1 mark, whilst Cesare Prandelli and Marcelo Gallardo are at 16/1 and 25/1 respectively, with the duo new, surprising names in the running.
