Aston Villa have new owners but they could face immediate criticism if they accept Stoke City’s bid for James Chester.

Villa fans finally have reason to be positive again, after Tony Xia sold his majority stake in the club.
But if Villa were to lose Chester to Stoke for just £10 million, then the new owners will have made their first controversial decision.
Villa fans would unquestionably be upset to lose Chester this summer, and for £10 million they would be hard pressed to find a better option.
The Welsh international was one of the best defenders in the Championship last term, and arguably out performed John Terry at Villa Park.

Chester’s partnership with Terry was a major reason behind Villa’s success, and there is now genuine hope that the claret and blues will keep hold of the former Hull City man.
While Villa’s financial struggles are not sorted, they are significantly reduced.
And selling Chester to Stoke just when positivity is started to head back in Villa’s direction would be a poor move for the new owners to make.
