Wolverhampton Wanderers sold Kortney Hause to Midland and Premier League rivals Aston Villa in the summer transfer window.
A year ago Kortney Hause wasn’t even making the matchday squad for Wolverhampton Wanderers. So what has changed in the last 12 months? Well, not much, barring that 20 mile journey from Molineux to Villa Park.
After a loan spell at Midland rivals Aston Villa breathed fresh life into Hause’s career, the former England U21 international was rewarded with a permanent £3 million move to Dean Smith’s side, according to The Sun.
Hause failed to force his way into Wolves’ Premier League plans and it’s fair to say he’d have hoped to show his former club what they were missing after returning to the promised land with Aston Villa. But if Hause has a nagging sense of déjà vu, it’s probably because he finds himself stuck in an identical situation one year on.
The 24-year-old has not been included in the 18-man matchday squad for any of Villa’s first four games since they sealed promotion back to the Premier League.
Bjorn Engels and Tyrone Mings have shone in his absence, displaying all the signs of a very promising central defensive partnership, with the bench-warming Ezri Konsa firmly established as third-choice.
To make matters worse, Hause could soon go from fourth to fifth in the pecking order. Long-serving fans’ favourite James Chester will step up his return from injury during the international break, according to the Express and Star, and his Premier League experience could make him an invaluable addition to Smith’s youthful squad.
