Aston Villa have really struggled in the Championship this season.
Neil Taylor in action for Wales
Aston Villa left-back Neil Taylor praised the club’s bravery for choosing to completely revamp the squad and playing philosophy, comparing the transition to Manchester United’s when Sir Alex Ferguson left Old Trafford after 26 years in charge, as quoted by the Express & Star.
The 28-year-old moved to Villa Park from Swansea City on transfer deadline day, and has gone on to make six appearances for Steve Bruce’s side, impressing with his energetic displays down Villa’s left hand side.
And the Wales international praised the club’s decision to head down a different route with the personnel change, comparing Villa’s transition to Man United’s after Fergie retired nearly four years ago, as quoted by the Express & Star:
Sir Alex Ferguson
“The club have been very brave. They have decided they don’t want some players and have decided to change it. That is a bold decision. Look at Man United the transition since Sir Alex Ferguson, there is loads of clubs who have a transition and during that transition period the club can lose football matches.”
Despite their so-called ‘brave’ decision, Villa will still be expected to gain promotion back to the Premier League next season, with this year’s campaign already written off, after falling 17 points behind sixth placed Sheffield Wednesday – who they welcome to Villa Park tomorrow.
And now is the time for Bruce’s January recruits to stand up and be counted, and repay some of the faith shown in them by the Villa boss.
