The January signing is aiming for a big 2018 at Aston Villa.

Aston Villa full-back James Bree has been speaking to the club’s official website about his hopes for the next campaign.

The 19-year-old signed for Villa from Championship rivals Barnsley during the January transfer window and he has gone on to make seven appearances for Steve Bruce’s side to date.

That is no surprise given his relative inexperience and the competition for places at Villa Park right now, but Bree has rarely disappointed when he has featured and with a full pre-season behind him there is no reason he cannot become the club’s first-choice right-back sooner rather than later.

“It’s been good; I’ve settled in well,” Bree told avfc.co.uk.

“I want to come back in pre-season fighting fit, do well and see what happens. I hope to play as many games as possible and kick on.”

Bree was a regular starter prior to his Villa switch, racking up 61 first-team appearances for Barnsley. However he would have moved to his new side knowing the challenges ahead and it will take a lot of hard work and focus to ensure he is ahead of the likes of Alan Hutton and Ritchie De Laet when the new campaign kicks off in earnest.

Bruce will have signed Bree for the long haul, yet he proved at his former club that he can excel in the second tier and he is only going to get better with age.
