According to a report from the Sun, Liverpool have joined Tottenham in the race to sign Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish, and the young midfielder would surely be better off opting for a switch to Merseyside over north London.

The 22-year-old is one of England’s brightest young prospects, and where he chooses to play his football next season will go a long way to defining him as a player.

Mauricio Pochettino is overseeing an exciting project a Tottenham, of that there is no doubt, but with Dele Alli at the club, and the Argentine’s penchant for the 4-2-3-1 formation, Grealish’s chances of earning regular first-team football would be restricted.

At Liverpool, however, Jürgen Klopp’s preference of playing a 4-3-3 system would free up a place in the middle of the park for the Villa man.

With the more defence-minded duo of Fabinho and Naby Keita, Grealish’s attacking, creative instinct would provide the perfect balance for Klopp in the engine room.

According to the Sun, Villa value Grealish at £40 million, and with Liverpool’s financial firepower, they would easily be able to blow Tottenham out of the water.

The 22-year-old is a long way off from being the finished article, but Anfield could be just the place for him to prosper, and flourish into the truly elite player that his potential suggests he can become.

Whilst £40 million seems like a lot of money for Grealish at first glance, it might actually turn out to be decent value in what is such a ludicrously inflated transfer market, and if Klopp does manage to bring him to Merseyside, it could be a signing of real significance for the Reds.
