Tottenham’s game against Barcelona last night showed why they were so desperate to sign Jack Grealish in the summer.
Spurs were light in midfield without the injured Mousa Dembele and Dele Alli, with creative dynamo Christian Eriksen missing too.
Grealish would have been a valuable extra option – even if it’s a push to say he would have tipped the balance in Tottenham’s favour.
Spurs failed in their pursuit of Grealish and on the day his Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce was fired, the midfielder had to watch the club he could have joined, on television.
Grealish is pals with Tottenham ace Harry Winks, who did get the start at Wembley against Lionel Messi and co.
The Villa ace sent a message to Winks after the game, indicating he was impressed with his efforts, calling him a ‘baller’.
Grealish signed a new contract at Villa last month to commit his future to the club.
He is currently waiting to see who Villa appoint as their next manager.
Grealish told The Telegraph last week that he had expected to join Spurs in the transfer window.
